Is limb lengthening surgery worth it?

We, humans, live in an age when advanced technology is used in orthopedic surgery. Orthopedic diseases for which there is no cure are almost gone. There have also been remarkable advances in cosmetic surgery.

The best evidence of this is “cosmetic leg lengthening surgery.” Now even adults can grow 6-12cm in 3-12 months with one or two lengthening surgeries. Also, the bone formed after limb lengthening surgery is as strong as any other bone. After full recovery, the results are permanent, and you can do any sport, including weightlifting.

It’s okay for tall, confident people who don’t need limb-lengthening surgery. However, Individuals with short height face several social and psychological problems, also known as “height discrimination.” These people have spent years studying and using exercise, pills, and injections to overcome the conditions they are experiencing. It can even negatively affect relationships.

There is a false claim that you don’t need a beautiful nose to be able to breathe; the more inaccurate is the negative perception of leg lengthening surgery. People may want to be taller even if there is no leg length difference and they have not experienced size discrimination. We had never faced it before, and most of the individuals who wanted to grow taller were doing it for cosmetic reasons.

So, Is limb lengthening surgery worth it?

Are the results worth the pain? Lengthy surgery is indeed a painful process. Pain is part of the limb lengthening process. Most pain is felt a few days after the operation. However, the pain threshold depends on the person, and the pain can be controlled with strong painkillers.

One major reason for negative thinking about the cost of leg lengthening surgery is that it is expensive in most countries. Limb lengthening surgery is not covered by insurance, so people are either relegated to countries like Iran where the surgery is of good quality and cheap (33,000 USD for MTN method), or it can cost anywhere from $50,000 to $120,000. Therefore, it is worth doing limb lengthening in Iran, where state-of-the-art lengthening systems are more affordable.

Finally, we had an interview with one of our patients, “Is it worth having limb lengthening surgery to increase height?”

Moderator: Hello. What was your motivation for doing a height increase?

Patient: Hello. I have been looking for a height increase for several years. I had reached puberty, and my growth had stopped. I used every method, such as hormone injections, to increase the bone length to a certain age. I was doing some stretching exercises for a while, but in the end, none worked.

I heard that there is also a Limb lengthening surgery. I searched a lot to find out the best doctor to do this. Most of them mentioned the name of Dr. Nader Motallebizadeh.

I solved this problem by myself, the issue of pain. After all, it is bone surgery. I didn’t know if I could bear it or not. Because I am susceptible, I thought I couldn’t take it. But I was wrong. Surgery is indeed painful, but it can be controlled. The pain is severe in the first two or three days, but gradually the pain decreases.

My height increase method was MTN. I increased by 7 cm on both legs. Of course, people are different in this matter. Some people get better in 9 months; some get better in one year. It depends on the person’s body.
